TMJ joint pain

does your jaw joint hurt?

You may have temporomandibular joint disorder.

TMJ - Temporomandibular Joint Disorder

While most people seem to refer to it as TMJ, sometimes it is referred to as TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder).  If you notice jaw popping, cracking, or tightness… it can come from either the neck or from the jaw itself and it quite commonly causes headaches. Did you know that there are dentists that work with chiropractors exclusively because they recognize there is a cervical component to it? As we say so often here at Cameron Family Chiropractic, the symptoms you’re experiencing can often times be linked back to the spine and nervous system. This is why we take an approach based off of these systems when rectifying the issues such as TMJ.

  • TMJ can be caused by many things including grinding your teeth, a sudden impact, or even from your jaw being unbalanced in shape either naturally or due to lifelong chewing on one side alone. People can get TMJ disorders from whiplash vehicle injuries because the jaw accelerates even after the head is done moving forward. Prolong time in a dental chair with your mouth open or orthodontics can also cause TMJ.

  • Yes, babies can have TMJ issues. These can be due to trauma during birth or even due to an injury afterward. TMJ in babies makes latching an issue. We can help resolve this issue with our newborn chiropractic services.
